Shy Wiki

A stroke of the brush, once made, can never be taken back. So you have to put all your heart and soul into it. Through the movement of your hand and the brush, you express what your heart is feeling, with the characters on the paper. In that brief moment, the character you wrote, becomes your Heart!

— The calligraphy club's president to Teru Momijiyama

"Light It Up!" ( () をともせ! Hi wo Tomose!?) is the fifth chapter of Volume 2, and eleventh overall of the SHY manga series.

Summary

Teru Momijiyama is at her house, trying to make a candle light with her ability, but fails. At school, she is thinking about this when she is approached by Iko Koishikawa, who was finally wearing her school uniform. She asks her if there was something bothering her, but Teru says it's nothing, so Iko starts talking to two other students.

All through the school day, Teru can't focus on classes because she's thinking about it. At the end of the day, Iko leaves first, as Teru says she still has something to do. Walking through the school, she passes a wall with hanging papers, and one in particular catches her eye: "flame" ( (ほのお) Honō?). Teru starts to think about it, until she is approached by a tall girl who claims to have made that kanji, inviting her in. With Teru being unable to say no, she accepts.

Suzuri calls out to the president, who is busy writing and, as soon as he finishes, asks who Teru was, getting excited to find out that she was there for a tuor at the calligraphy club. Because Teru liked the kanji she had made, Suzuri says that she couldn't be a bad person. As she begins to write, the president asks Teru what she liked about the kanji and she explains that she just felt that the kanji was burning. He says he felt the same way, describing Suzuri as passionate about calligraphy. She looks embarrassed, asking them to be quiet.

Teru channels her power

Teru channels her power.

Suzuri finishes and shows the other two, who say they like it, and the president suggests that Teru also try to write something. She writes a little, and ends up hearing from the president his theory that calligraphy is the direct channeling of their heart. Teru has an epiphany and excuses herself, hurriedly leaving the club. The two end up regretting the fact that they didn't give her their names, nor she hers.

At home, Teru intrigues N. Villio by picking up a brush and paper. When asked, she says that she would write her heart, which only confuses it more. She tries several times, until the fire is finally channeled and she celebrates. N. Villio, however, warns her that the paper was burning and she panics.
