"I'll Give It All I've Got" (ガンバって Ganbatte?) is the first chapter of Volume 2, and seventh overall of the SHY manga series.
Summary
Spirit is exasperated when Stardust asks Shy if she is ready to give up being a Hero, but Shy responds that she was ready to risk her position. Everyone is taken to a room inside the base. Spirit is still worried about Shy, and she tries to assure her that she would be okay being a hero, but the truth is, she was too scared.
Stardust then reviews the rules with her. Iko is not happy to see two heroes fighting, but Unilord justifies it by Shy's lack of experience in battles. Even though she had saved Iko, it had only been her first challenge. Shy is shaking, and Spirit says she would interfere if she saw it was too much. Stardust, however, says she shouldn't until the fight is over.
Shy can't hit Stardust
Stardust tosses a coin in the air for the fight to begin, and Shy wonders why she said she would win, but Iko's incentive encourages her. As soon as the coin hits the ground, Shy charges towards Stardust, but passes right through him, without hitting him. Iko wonders what happened as Shy falls to the ground. With Stardust's taunt, Shy gets up and attacks him again, but again is unable to hit him.
Shy keeps trying to hit him, but in vain. Stardust hits her hard in the stomach, leaving her shaking and stunned. Stardust comments that he always fights with his full power because he doesn't sympathize with the others' pain, and Shy is so compassionate that she is weak. Shy gets up and continues trying to hit him. Iko asks why Shy can't hit him, and Unilord explains that Stardust's lack of empathy made him able to prevent the flows from hitting him. He hits her again, and encourages her in a way that frightens her, telling her to discover her power and fight him as if she was going to kill him, or he would kill her first, again hitting her and stepping on her head.
Shy's indomitable will
Spirit tries to interfere but is stopped by Stardust, who suggests Shy to give up because she is too weak. She, however, claims that she can still fight, and they continue until he looks down on her, with the Japanese Hero lying on the ground, heavily injured. Iko can't look, and Spirit yells at Unilord to stop it. She says she can't as Shy's transformation hasn't unraveled, which meant she was still determined.
Iko begs Shy to give up, but Shy clenches her fist, making Stardust wonder what that meant. Trembling, she stands up, saying that as long as there are people beside her, she can always get up and persist, and Stardust seems amused.
