“ | You were right, you know. About what it means to be a hero. I'm scared. So scared I can't stop shaking... But even so, I'll keep moving. I'll push pass the fear. Because... I am Shy! | ” |

"I'm Shy" (シャイなので Shai nano de?) is the first episode of the first season of the SHY anime series.
Summary
Sometime during the 21st century, war disappeared from Earth due to the arising of mysterious, superhuman individuals that fight against evil. They are called Heroes.
A young girl called Teru Momijiyama is nervously looking through her phone and reviewing some speeches she would give in an upcoming event. N. Villio, inside her bag, tells her they have arrived at the station near Himawari Land, so she gets off the train, accidentally bumps into a couple and apologizes profusely. She keeps on walking with the help of N. Villio while thinking about how heroes appeared in every country, including Japan.
She then arrives in Himawari Land and gets on stage under her Hero identity, Shy. However, due to her extreme timid personality, Shy struggles to keep the audience interested (with the exception of a a little boy and his older sister) and leaves quickly. After the show, she feels so unwell because of the social pressure that she has vomited into the trash bin, which makes N. Villio leave her bag to try and cheer her up.

Shy tries to save Iko.
They are interrupted by screams coming from outside: the roller coaster has stopped in the middle of a looping. Iko tries to reassure her brother, even though she herself is afraid, but then Shy arrives to the rescue. Iko asks her to save everyone else first and, a little reluctant, the Hero complies. When it was finally her turn to be rescued, the roller coaster starts moving backwards and it gets off the rails. In an attempt to save her, Shy puts herself in front of the cart and successfully stops it from crashing into the ground.
She catches her breath before going to check up on her, but unfortunately, she is badly injured.
The news report that Iko is in critical condition after the accident, and the media heavily questions Shy's credibility after the incident. About one month later, in Teru's house, N. Villio tries to cheer her up with some hero work, however, Teru is unable to heart-shift since she is insecure, afraid she would get criticized again for not being a good hero. Right at this moment, Spirit appears in her room unannounced. Teru asks why she is here and, to her surprise, the Russian heroine tells her she had forgotten.
Initially, Spirit uses a confusing allegory with drunk people with Teru, which makes her angry, but then she explains what she meant: that no Hero can save everyone, and that she should carry on those she couldn't save. Their conversation is cut short as Spirit is called in an emergency, but Teru keeps on thinking about the advice she received from her. Later, while she is choosing videos to rent, she overhears two guys talking about her Hero identity, which leaves her so nervous she quickly leaves the shop.

Shy regains her courage to be a Hero.
On the street, as Teru questions herself on her own attitudes, fire trucks pass through her in the opposite direction. Immediately thinking that something must have happened, she follows them, only to find T-1 Hotel on fire, so she tries to transform but to no avail. Teru still thought of herself as mediocre because she was unable to save Iko. Just then, that same boy from the Himawari Land incident, Iko's younger brother, arrives at the scene and insists he must save the people trapped at the hotel because Shy has saved him once.
He runs past the firefighter as a part of the building explodes, and debris was about to fall on him had it not been Teru to jump in to save him. After making sure he is fine, Teru informs N. Villio about the fire, and that she would intervene, which makes Daigo recognize her as a Hero. Due to his speech earlier, even if she is trembling in fear, she is able to transform again and jumps to the building on fire.
Once inside, after hearing a baby crying, Shy finds him and his unconscious mother. She doesn't sense any pulse on her, but tries to ignore her nervousness to save them, putting them on her back and leaving the room. Suddenly, however, something explodes and Shy ends up letting go of the baby that starts flying through the window. She immediately attempts to jump to save him but her propellant is malfunctioning due to overuse, however Spirit fortunately arrives on time to save not only them, but also the baby's mother.

"No matter what anyone says, you saved precious lives."
When the situation is finally under control, Spirit alongside Shy observe the aftermath. The former is quickly recognized by the crowd, however, but a single boy comes up to thank Shy for her help. He also informs her that Iko would soon get discharged from the hospital before leaving. Spirit gets back, and she tells Shy the mother she has saved not only opened her eyes, but is also safe, reassuring her she is a Hero, to which the other agrees while crying.
Spirit then takes Shy to the Heroes' Hideout, and she meets Unilord for the first time. After introducing herself in a rather comical way, Unilord tells Shy Heroes are meant to be a beacon of hope to the world, and that she should prepare to an upcoming threat that would befall the Earth's Heart.
At school, Teru thinks about Unilord's words, only to get surprised that Iko is now her classmate. She sits by her side and greets her in a friendly manner, even though Teru herself is nervous, as she knows she was responsible for her visible leg injury.

- She appears briefly during the introduction scene;
- Teru has an action figure of Century, Spirit, and Shine on her room's bookcase.
- Teru is seen training her speech for the Heartman's Show event while she is on the train in the anime. In the manga, Shy is directly seen at the stage in Himawari Land.
- N. Villio has a bigger participation in the anime than in the manga.
- In the manga, Stigma makes two background appearances: briefly during the media outburst about Shy's performance in Himawari Land's accident, and during the T-1 Hotel fire incident. In the anime, he is also seen with the crowd, observing the accident in Himawari Land.
- In the anime, Spirit is seen using her special ability to save Shy during the T-1 Hotel fire incident. In the manga, she would not have used her ability until her first fight with Tzveta Kooriskaya.
- In the manga, Spirit opens the portal to the Heroes' Hideout while they are on top of the buildings. In the anime, she opens it in front of T-1 Hotel.
