“ | Why would anyone be angry at someone who had done their best to save them? Shy did her best to save me, and she did... Just like you just did, Momijiyama. | ” |
— Iko Koishikawa to Teru Momijiyama in "The Mission of Heroes" |
Iko Koishikawa (
Appearance
Iko is a beautiful young girl with light complexion and wavy medium-length, blond hair with bright, yellow eyes. She is always wearing a tiara with a crescent moon on the right side. After the incident with the rollercoaster, she gained a scar crossing her left eyebrow, and her right leg was left injured, so she had to use a black brace on her right knee and crutches to walk properly. She used to wear her old school uniform: a shirt buttoned with a bow, blazer, skirt, black socks on her calves and Mary Jane shoes. After receiving it, she started using Tanpopo Middle School's uniform.[4]
Personality
Iko is a very friendly and outgoing girl who can make friends easily. Unlike Teru, she doesn't have any problems to talk to people and is, actually, very charismatic, drawing attention to herself frequently. She is usually the one who makes Teru hang out with her, in addition to encouraging her in her decisions. Iko also tends to show a lot of concern for everyone except herself as when she tells Shy to save the other before saving herself, resulting in the accident which injured her legs.
It is revealed that, instead of hating Shy for her condition, she hated herself but for other personal motives: these were her parents' deaths, as she couldn't save them. She also didn't feel like she was a good sister to her brother without them. Stigma used his ring to create her corrupted form, outcropping her bad feelings from her heart. After being saved by Shy, however, she seems to have improved a lot psychologically and is much happier currently, including she could be friends with Teru and is the only one who knows her hero identity.
She develops a strong sense of justice and is always trying to help Shy even though she herself is not a hero and doesn't have any special ability like her and her fellows heroes. Iko feels useless if she is unable to help them in some way, be it with information about the Amarariruku or trying to cheer Shy on.
Since her parents died, Iko has taken care of her brother alone. Due to that, she is very good at taking care of children, shown when she was able to calm a lost child at the mall while hanging out with Teru once, helping him find his parents. Just like her brother, she is also very obsessed with superheroes, easily getting excited when talking about Teru's heroic identity, Shy, as well as other heroes like Stardust and Spirit.
Iko has shown to be quite perverted at times as she asked Teru if she ever gets naked when transforming with her Heart-Shift Bracelets and voluntereed to record it even if Teru was embarrassed. She also seems to get easily jealous of Teru, as she dislikes the idea of Ai Tennoji knowing her hero identity as well.[5]
Abilities
Efficient Children Care: Because she had to raise her brother alone,[6] Iko grew up to be really good with children. She could easily calm down a boy who was lost and find his parents quickly, at the same time, teaching him an important life lesson.[7]
Equipment
Heart-Shift Bracelets (
- Shadow Manipulation: As Shadow Girl, Iko is capable of controlling shadows at will.
- Phantasmagorical Shadow Weave: Shadow Girl uses her katana to weave a person's shadow to a surface, making them unable to move.
Former Equipment

Iko's corrupted form
Made in Heart (
In her corrupted form, her hair became dark and her right arm and leg had a crystallized appearance, five clawed fingers and a birdlike foot with three sharp toes. Her left hand and thigh, and right cheek had crystallized fragments. The sclera of her eyes became black and appeared to be bleeding, while a single horn protruded from the left side of her forehead. In this form, Iko had immense strenght, physical durability, aprimored speed and agility. She could manifest her heart through crystal-like weapons and attack her enemies with them.
Shadow Girl's Ring: Iko received a ring from Shadow Girl which allowed her to switch personalities with her and use her powers.

- In regards to her character, Nao Toyama commented:
“ | My name is Nao Toyama and I will be playing Iko Koishikawa! SHY is a passionate hero story that deals with the heart. This is a work that will make you feel some important feelings, whether you're touched by the honest words of the main character, Shy, or surprised by the backbone of the characters. The character I play, Iko, is a bright and nice girl who can help others without hesitation. But not a hero! Iko is an ordinary girl, and she is a dear friend to Shy. They have such a wholesome relationship that makes me think it would be really wonderful if we all could think of one another like this. Iko also has an unexpected darkness in her heart... Please look forward to the anime broadcast! Thank you for your continued support!! |
