Soga Village (
Description
Purity and Nihil.
Supposedly located somewhere in Japan's Kansai region given Ai and Mai Tennoji's Kansai dialect, Soga Village is a secret and isolated village of shinobi surrounded by mountains, and a river runs nearby. It is home to the infamous heartblades Purity and Nihil.
History
According to Ai, she comes from a long lineage of shinobi, so it's safe to assume Soga Village exists for a long time. Even though she is the oldest, however, the village's master wanted Mai, the youngest princess, to take leadership for the village due to her talent.[1] As the nearby village was incinerated, Tokimaru became a shinobi for Soga Village serving directly under the Tennoji sisters.[2] It is unknown if other shinobi came as well.
Some years ago, Mai betrayed the village and stole the Divine Blade. Before disappearing, she had killed many of the village's residents and stabbed Ai in the heart with the heartblade, forever limiting her physical capabilities. According to Ai, the village's rules estipulate she must be killed,[3] but she doesn't like the idea of eliminating her own sister. She tried yet and yet again to persuade the village's master to forgive Mai for her sins, but was denied every single time.[4]
At age 14, Ai ran away from home to search for Mai and get Shy's help, and Tokimaru followed her initially to take her back, but eventually let her be.
